Ricky Gervais stuff

While looking for the name of this guy's new show (Extras) so that I may 'find' it I came across his official site and it has some interesting things. (This is the creator and star of the brilliant BBC show The Office, which you should see if you haven't yet or you will be missing out) He has apparently written an episode for the Simpsons and stars in it too. Here is some early artwork of it. It could have aired by now for all I know. Also, here is a list of his Top Ten Sitcoms for some magazine.

Crazy People

Yes twas a candle. Also, here is a demonic, alit honeybear head.

Today I will share with you some links demonstrating a type of individual that likes to dress up as their favourite cartoon, videogame character, etc. A lot of the images make me sad for the people in a way, but oh well. It has also been classified as being "hilarious in a frightening way."

I think the look on his face tells it all. He has just realized he has made a terrible mistake

This female is very scantily clothed. She is obviously crazy.

Brothers Grimm Is Not Awesome!

In fact it is horrible, shitacular even! (swipe for vulgarity) First of all I had a bad feeling about this movie after watching a few previews for it, so I guess I can pat myself on the back on this one. Ok, so we get into the the theatre, and endure like three boring commericals and five or six previews, one of which was a confusingly put together King Kong one [that looks kinda neat to me], and the movie finally starts. However there is no sound. This carries on for about five minutes and there is some sporadic giggling in the audience, some from me. I think this could definitely be classified as the movies high point. Actually there is another good point, a role played by the guy that did Gareth from the superiour BBC original version of The Office.

Here I will go into some minor spoilers, so.. if you care about that stop reading I suppose. I will try to do it in point form.

- The movie is boring and slow
- There are a few funny parts, but lots of failed attempts
- Heath Ledger's acting, voice and character are incredibley annoying
- The story is poorly written and often things just fly together without much sense or reason.
- There is an Italian and French character that are ugly stereotypes, impossible to understand half the time, and not funny.
- Matt Damon gets stabbed twice in the heart, but he's ok!
- I am sure there is more, but I don't want to recall anything else about the movie.

- On the plus side the visual effects are ok at some parts

The one positive thing about this is that everyone got a free pass as we exited the theatre. This may be because the management actualy watched the movie, or because of the sound mix-up at the start.

Kung-fu Hustle is Awesome!

Kung-fu Hustle is Awesome! (movie) I suggest you go rent it. The movie has hilarious, interesting characters, a general good off-the-wall sense of humour, and imaginative and ridiculous action scenes. It is from the director that did Shaolin Soccer, which I haven't seen, but I might now. It is all in Cantonese or some other kind of pagan language, but that just adds to it in my opinion. There is an option to watch it with dubbed English, but we all know real men watch movies with the original dialogue and subtitles. (I can't confirm what real women do at this point in time) I had pretty low expectations renting it but it turned out to be really fun.

In other news I banged the back of my hand and have a small owwie.

Too Boring Candle Shots

Here are two shots of a candle I made. It is not very special, in fact it is slightly crooked. Both pictures were taken upside down because that is the only way I could hold the camera and take a picture with one hand. As a result the pictures look strange, at least to me.

I mentioned Hayden earlier when talking about Joanna Newsom. I went to a concert of his two years ago maybe? Anyways here are 2 songs that bleed together from a live album that was recorded at that time. He talks about his cat Woody, pretty much verbatim the same story he told us too. {Check it out here} I put the two files into a .rar file. If you don't know how to open it go here. Apparently there is a limit of 25 downloads on this thing, as well as a week limit, But I can't imagine that really being a problem.

Artlad

This is some kind of weblog run by a small boy with the help of his dad. It is all cute and that kind of crap, but I just wanted to share this image from it that I have had on my wallpaper for a while, because I like it.
'You know what it is? I'll tell you. It's a T-rex coming down to bite you up! See the teeth?'

I think of it as an alligator though.

Futurama was right!

In this study that I noticed on FARK scientists have apparently discovered how to change the speed of light, both slowing it down and speeding it up. 'Now what does this have to do with Futurama?' you must be asking yourself whilst scratching your head stupidly. Well I will tell you. I have watched most of the second season of Futurama recently and on one episode they try to explain how they travel great distances through space so quickly in an unorthodox manner (with regards to how Sci Fi things usually explain it) The Professor explains that they don't actually move faster than the speed of light, they just sped up the speed of light 400 years in the past. Anyways I might have some details mixed up, but that is the gist of what makes this discovery mildly amusing to me and twelve other people on the planet.

In movie watching news the 40 Year Old Virgin is a hilarious movie.

Waxy Business

I made some candles today, and they look pretty snazzy. I won't go into the boring details (much) but the yellow was made by filling the container with ice chips first, which was then followed by the wax. Click on the pictures for bigness.

Amazing Girl Avec Harp

Finally CJSR has fixed their messed up computer so I can listen to their radio station on the internet again. Yesterday I heard a song that just blew me away. I was quite interested in learning who was singing this song so I emailed the music director of the station and asked him what song was playing at 3:15pm and gave him a vague description. Thankfully and surprisingly I got a response the next day - Joanna Newsom and the album is The Milk-Eyed Mender.

This is the type of music that I tend to gravitate towards that shares some similarities with some of my other favourite artists like Hayden, Feist, and Johnny Cash . First of all she has a very interesting voice, in fact it might be a bit too interesting for some peoples tastes. Secondly the instrumentation is simple and acoustic. For the most part she just plays her harp which sounds amazing and a lot like a guitar or a.. keyboard or something. Thirdly she has very interesting and unusual lyrics and makes use of words that you don't commonly hear. This appeals to me and is a nice change from brainless songwriting that rhyme 'maybe' with 'baby' and all those other cliched songs. Fourthly she is adorable! Below are a few links that I have dug up.

Here are three streaming videos from this BBC site that has some content about her. You really get to see her skill at the harp an singing style.

*edit* - I guess these links don't work, but you can see them if you go to the BBC site linked above.

I find the whole album quite amazing and I thought I would include the song that caught my attention on the radio. It is also in live, video form above. Nab it here Peach, Plum, Pear (reminder that it probably expires after a week)

Jennifer stood there, quietly ovulating.

The title is just an example of a horrible first line from a novel. At least that is what I thought when I first looked at here, however it appears it is a contest to just make it up. In any case there are some funny ones. Here are some other good ones, deemed by me.

I know who the murderer is, Kevin blogged.

Six o'clock comes early, and so does death.

The pain wouldn't stop, and Vern still had three cats left.

There are also a few for worst last lines of a novel like;

But Gran was once again lost in quiet reminiscence, or perhaps her epilepsy.

In Hockey news I point thee to this. WHAT?! Why did they trade Brewer for Pronger? This makes me sad. Is he actually cheaper than Brewer? I know Pronger got a bad injury a year or two ago, and I am not sure if he has ever really returned to form. They traded Isbister to the Bruins, but I don't think anyone really cares about that.

Also Sidney Crosby, the #1 draft pick of the Penguins is going to appear on Jay Leno in the near future apparently. That should be decent exposure for him and for hockey. He seems like a nice guy so hopefully we don't have to hear about him breaking someone's spine or killing his friend in a car accident in the future.
