Stephen Colbert and a Missed Milestone!
Do you like Stephen Colbert? No? Well you are smelly. I came across two interesting interviews with him on BB. This first interview is older, just before he started his show the Colbert Report. It is shorter and more fun-filled than the second interview from The Onion, which has more information and expansive answers. I find it strange that he cites Peter Mansbridge (Canadian News Anchor) as one of his inspirations. I wonder if this is true or if he is just throwing it in there for comedic value. As a big fan of him and his new show I found the interviews quite interesting.
In sadder news, this is the 103rd posty-thing here! Such a missed opportunity to celebrate pointlessly (100). I will have to bide my time for number 250 I guess.

Road Rage Leads to Fight with Cyclist
I saw this article about an altercation between a driver and a cyclist. Apparently the driver threw a bag of trash out onto the street and then a bike courier (female) returned back into his car through his window, or by opening the door or something. Then he threw some coffee on her, and then she keyed his car and then he got out and started to stomp on her bike and go crazy. What a complete nutjob. That is the information that I pieced together anyways. See the crazy pictures that the bystander took here. (might take a while to load due to traffic)

Mudbound
In stark contrast to yesterday's frenetic song today's offering is a bit of a downer courtesy of Beck's beautiful and melancholic 'Sea Changes' album. Maybe later on I will share a zippier Beck tune. The exquisite 'Deborah' perhaps.

Oh Yeah, Oilers.
There was a really amazing ending to the Oiler's game yesterday versus Phoenix Coyotes and smelly Mike Comrie. The Oilers, while down 3-2, had a faceoff in the Coyotes' end with 2.2 seconds on the clock. And they scored! It was a beautiful thing to behold. Check out the video highlights at the Oiler's site The aforementioned goal is about 2 minutes into the highlights, and since no one scored in overtime the shootout was after that.
I don't think I have any oil related songs so this song from Backyard Dog will have to do. Oil is dirty and so are dogs right? A perfect substitute. It has a pretty fun and manic reggae/ska sound and I discovered it on the Ali G Indahouse movie soundtrack.
Tip of the Day - Vintage ads where kids leer demonically at food is amusing.

Talk to the Hand
In my silkscreening class, serigraphy, I did my first assignment. Most of it was on paper (10) and I thought it would be fun to try it on a shirt. Here are the results. I took some photos of myself looking casual. The print is a little high I think, but it applied nicely and the colours work pretty good.

OK prahmuter
Oprah really gave it to that guy yesterday apparently. I want to punch him in the face every time I see him trying to respond to questions. Or as the as this guy from the Huffington Post puts it in this post, "he remains a lost sole[sic], clinging to semantics in the face of contradiction." At least Oprah has balls.

Here is a neat little page that shows some kind of 3D Printer thing that I saw on BoingBoing. I wonder how long till we see more of this type of thing for numerous purposes.

am, pm and Two Songs
I accidentally set my alarm to go off in the pm instead of the am. Luckily I set it early in the day and caught it. Who invented that stupid way of measuring time anyways? Must have been an American. I wonder how many millions of dollars the European Union etc save (they use the 24 hour clock) compared to North America due to am/pm mix-ups for alarms and people being late for work, nuclear plants imploding and that sort of thing. Obviously it is in the billions of millions. As is the case with most of the problems in the world today, as subtly aforehinted, this is another case of the Americans not wanting to change. Just like the metric system! Ok, enough of me being hilarious.
I recently came across two songs that I had sitting around in my download folder. One has been there for many months while another is new. Anyways, they share some similarities. First of all they are both kind of laid back (electronic?) music. Also they both feature segments of dialogue, mostly a woman, from what I would assume are movies. This one is from a group called Tunng and the song is Beautiful And Light (or it could be vice versa, not sure) The second one is from Ill and the song is Spirit67 (maybe). I find them interesting.

Electility Leads to Gemini
So the election happened yesterday here, and the Conservatives now will have a minority government. In my district a Conservative, Monte Solberg, won (encumbant) by another slim margin. I believe a recount is under way. Below is a poll I envisioned to see who people voted for, but after I accidently submitted it prematurely with only one option I didn't have the heart to change it. You might think I am trying to be clever and make a point about something, but you would be wrong. Behold Shruggle's first and perhaps last poll.
Edit - It looks like it might make you look at some stupid advertisement when you look at the results.. Pretty lame.
Yesterday the Calgary Flames beat the Edmonton Oilers sadly. Also, the leader of the Conservatives Stephen Harper is from Calgary. The twins, Tegan and Sara are also from Calgary I believe. I recently got Tegan and Sara's 2004 CD 'So Jealous' thinking that I had heard it before, but I hadn't and it has been almost knocking my socks off over the last couple days. Here the first song off the album. I don't know how to describe the sound, but I guess one could say it is often catchy.

This is a type of Angora rabbit. (I wonder if it can see) I got the picture from this site. A couple other cute pictures of younger, less austere rabbits are here and here.

A Look At The Odobenus Rosmarus Question
A few years ago I was taking a marine science class. The teacher was quite enthusiastic and I remember as it being a good class. We got to watch a lot of video from the Blue Planet series, which is quite amazing by the way. Anyways I remember him talking about walrus and he said that walrus sometimes eat seals, and they do this by coming up behind the seal and sucking the brain out of the back of their heads. Walrus are very good at sucking. Anyways while I trust this guy's opinion it just sounds so insane that I have always wondered about whether this was true or not.
Anyways, here is what I have dug up.
- Walrus do eat seals sometimes at least "There are some rare but habitual seal-eating walruses. Their diet consists mainly of ringed and bearded seals. These are usually male walruses, recognizable because they are usually larger than other males with powerful shoulder and chest muscles. Their skin may become grease-stained from the blubber of the seals." from here.
- A Walrus' suction ability is well documented. They use it to suck out the insides of shellfish quickly.
- Here is an answering of sorts of the brain question.
- This is totally unrelated to what I am talking about but it is also unusual. It is a picture of a bone that a walrus has that most mammals don't. [insert 'boner' joke here] If you want to read the context with the image go here and scroll down.
While I haven't exactly found out if it happens or not (brain sucking through skull) it is an Urban Legend used to scare children around the World.
Tip of the Day - If you see a walrus staring at you strangely while you are swimming you might want to leave the area.
Skeleton Girls are Cute
No, I don't mean broads with eating disorders. I am talking about the sport skeleton. You know, the sled thing? Anyways you will be able to see it at the Olympics so keep a look out. If I remember I will determine who the most adorable skeletoner is. This is pretty much the only picture I could find.

Thor's Day
This little story is kind of funny. An 82 year old caricurist drew a picture of a burglar and helped identify him. It has this gem of a quote "He tried to brush me aside, him being much bigger than me. I thought if I got into a fight, I'd lose my dressing gown and I'd end up starkers."

Uh Oh, Here We Go..
While watching The Wedge last Friday night I saw a fun video from a group called Wonderwood. Here is that song. This particular song is fairly over the top pop at parts and in some ways reminds me of Beck and Metric. A female is the lead singer, and that is about all the information I have about that. There is a fair bit of variety song-wise on the album. Some heavier rock songs including some that are Hole-ish and poppier songs, some ones that are more punk.

A Song Test of Sorts
I am going to try out easier way for uploading songs for a while. There will be a few ads, but I don't think it is too bad, and you don't have to click through stuff, or wait 30 seconds or anything else lame like that.
Try to nab this song if you want. It is from the 2005 album by Sufjan Stevens. This album was apparently the best reviewed of 2005. It is a pretty good song I guess. I had heard it a few times on CJSR and then it was talked about a lot on the National Playlist.
Anyways, let me know if there are any problems with getting the song, I think it might be a permanent upload, but I dunno..

Cute baby naming article
I saw this on Fark and gave it a read. It is a BBC article about some interesting naming trends in the Philipines. My favourites are probably the blurb about the man named Hitler, and the name of the twins born before and after midnight. And here is a completely unrelated, cropped picture to 'zazz' up the post.

Some drawings
Here are a few drawings I did in my second drawing class of the semester. They are all supposed to be displaying vertically but the third one is stubbornly horizontal. The shading is only half done on the orange girl's face. I did them with conte, which is kind of a chalky pastel I guess. (oops, the middle one is charcoal) Click for biggerness.
Things I learned today
Or rather things I learned in the last five minutes of watching TV.

Upchuck de Rodentia
I was watching a commercial yesterday for a skin care product, half paying attention, when suddenly the spokesperson said 'Now with beaver puke.' Perhaps someday I will discover what she really said and then my life will be complete.
Update - Also I recommend you check out this video of arch-conservative Bill O'Reilly on David Letterman if you haven't already. I suggest you get the long version. That guy lives in an alternate universe.
